very true minkie. but the volunteer work i did taught me soo much. stories from people who were in ww11 and went thru the great depression.. you can read it all you want but it doesn't compare to hearing what it was really like.
i met a 97 year old man - yes 97. he had a shaky voice but everything in his head was there. he remembered stuff i couldn't remember. he was telling me about his first job and he couldn't believe this guy started working there but quit after 2 weeks. this was at a time where quiting jobs was stupid because it was too hard to find a new one. then he said "ahhh what was his name.............." about 2 minutes later he came up with his first and last name. amazing man.

volunteer work is always rewarding no matter what. I'm just pointing out that some schools will consider grades higher than volunteering, some do vice versa...its good to check out the admission standards for the schools you are thinking about in advance, if you can.

oh minkie - i agree with you 100%. you have to have the GPA - did i sound like i was disagreeing?(that is not spelled right) - i didn't mean to 8-)grades are number 1. but since colleges like some other stuff (tho many will still admit) i was just suggesting voluntering.

Niki, if your counselor was the one who suggested the virtual school, would it be possible to have your mom talk to him/her about it? I say you shouldn't have to be in a subpar school. If there is a way to have your mom talk to the counselor (the three of you can have a meeting), then she will see that you're really serious about this and you're trying to make an educated decision. She should be happy and proud that you are taking your education so seriously. I know I would be proud of my daughter! I really, really hope this works out for you, and SOON!!

She's said that she'll go talk to the counsler about it. I'll try to find out Monday when is the earliest I can schedule an appointment with him so that we can find out more about this. My Mom seems to really be considering this and she's asked my aunt (the one that did the dual-enrollment) to be involved and help us out. The main issue if my mom will go for it, I think, will be convincing my father that this will be better for me. He's already gotten a bit snappy this week because I don't like this school. He had a great time in high school and doesn't seem to understand why I don't love it I really, really hope this works out, too. I still have somwhere between 3-8 more weeks before my mom said she would seriously consider it and talk to my dad. I don't know how long it would take to enroll in the virtual school IF I'm allowed to do it. Maybe by November this will be squared off. Thanks for you opinions, Liz!

It's great that your mom will talk to the counselor! Also, I understand that your dad had a great time in high school, but I would bet it was quite a few years ago when he went. I graduated in 1988, and I know things are a lot different now than they were 18 years ago. I hope he understands that your school is probably a lot different than his was. I really, really hope this works out for you. That's why I stickied this thread, so you could get everyone's opinion on this issue. I feel bad that you're having to go through this!

Don't worry so much, I'm doing enough of that for everyone on this board. I have free reign of the school during lunch (when no one eats because they always run out of food) so I'll try to squeeze into the main office to make an appointment. Unforunately, nothing will be happening for a while even if my mom decides to let me go ahead with this. Thanks for your concern, everyone. I appreciate your suggetions. I'll be here venting on Monday so I let you know then whats going on.

Niki, if only one of us were Bianca then we could speak from on high and give you the perfect advice that would change your life forever. The clouds would part, the sun would shine, and the angels would sing.
