I just watched the first half of The Sound of Music. It’s been forty years (YIKES) since my first viewing, and here are my comments: Julie Andrews is evil. First she’s an obnoxious nun who makes the other nuns wonder how to solve a problem like her. How about you take away her guitar? Shouldn’t that have been part of her dowery, anyway? Then she appears at The Captain's (Was his name Gaylord?)home in Vienna and makes all the kids cry at the dinner table while smirking (she probably had a bastard son named Zach) all because someone put a frog in her pocket THEN she makes the kids listen to her sing about her favorite things, which is the third worst song in the history of the musical world, right behind A Horse With No Name and It’s A Small World After All THEN she makes the kids dress up in green curtains and has them run all over in public in them while singing nonsensical lyrics and then has the audacity to point a whip at them and make THEM SING IT BACKWARDS THEN she makes them hang from trees along a roadway while wearing said green curtains THEN she brings them all out in a canoe and purposely tips them overboard and thinks it’s funny THEN she makes them perform a marionette act, which is almost as sadistic as shoving them in a clown car and making them wear giant red clown noses and big giant shoes. THEN, she made them yodel. And yes, the Nazis were really, really, bad. But I don’t think they yodeled much. I had to turn it off after the yodeling. It made me feel like kicking whiskers on kittens.

TRIXIE!!!! What on earth made you watch that?? I remember watching it when I was younger and wondered what the hell these people were doing??? Very odd, but I thought that maybe I was too young to understand it's greatness. Obviously I was right in my assumption.

Liz, my dear! It was desperation that drove me to it. Football was on. All. Day. Long. I already watched Gone With The Wind five thousand and twenty-three times so I channel-surfed... And there was this, well, this horrible singing and it was like a really bad train wreck, or if you live here, it was like a really boring flat tire on the side of the road, where I became hypnotized by the strangeness of it all. It really was even stranger than we remembered. That's why I turned it off. The yodeling really did me in. And those green curtains. I don't remember why I liked that movie when I was a kid, but I guess when it's that or The Nutty Professor, or Son of Blubber you go with the yodeling. I hope to never be that bored ever again. Next thing you know, I'll be flipping around and start watching Mary Poppins. She was evil, too. What with all that Supercalafragalistic crap. I'm waiting for Netflix. Unfortunately, it's a holiday weekend.

OH, NO! Tomorrow's Sunday. That means MORE FOOTBALL. I can't wait to go back to work. Except there's this woman who ALWAYS goes to the restroom at the same time I do and she hums the entire time. I've never seen her but I bet she wears a lot of green chintz. She probably looks just like Julie Andrews. I think I need a drink.

Yeah, I'm not too happy about the football thing, either. Andrew and I are actually going to go out TOGETHER, for a meal and a movie. If you see the sky falling, that's the reason! He will be missing football (and won't be at work), and is going out with ME, his WIFE!! ;D ;D ;D

LIZ! What a novel thing to do! GO OUT WITH YOUR WIFE! What will those wild and crazy guys think of next I'll be keeping my eyes peeled (even though that's unsightly and pretty disgusting) for flying pigs. I'll also sharpen my ice skates. You never know when hell will freeze over. Have a great time. And wear your shoulder pads just to keep his attention.

Yeah, And dare I suggest it? Knee pads? Okay, nevermind. That wasn't right at all. Sorry. What WAS I thinking? So, shoulder pads, a helmut and clean underwear. That's the ticket.

I actually WAS going to mention the knee pads, but I didn't want to be identified as a different kind of slut. You said that you were a "karma slut", so I think one "slut" is all this board can handle! ;D

Well, we're all kinda slutty here. But in our own unique and lovely slutty ways. Speaking of which, I need to take my tired slutty butt and drag it behind me and plop it into bed. My husband will be so happy. It's another exciting Saturday night... I'm off, Liz. Hope to see you tomorrow or soon. Have a good night (or in your case, MORNING! I don't know how you do it ) GET SOME SLEEP! You nut, you.

I have a confession: I've never seen The Sound of Music. I've seen it in play form, and that was enough for me. But I was on the hillside in Austria where I think they filmed one of the famous scenes. It was beautiful!

Chandy - Don't be embarrassed. You saved yourself from a demented idea of what childhood should be like. The only thing good about the movie WAS the scenery. It was breathtakingly gorgeous. And you were there? You lucky, thing, you. One last comment: When I first saw the movie, the song "The Hills Are Alive With The Sound of Music" scared the pants off of me. Along with my uncle telling me that dinosaurs lurked in my backyard at night, I then became fearful of the hills coming to life and jamming all night long. They'd sport shades and big lips with cigs dangling out of the corners and Julie Andrews would start writhing around to "Honky Tonk Woman". It's a visual that I will suffer from for the rest of my life.
