My guess is, McT comes up with an entire thing and JHC makes modifications as she sees fit--or suggests changes and they battle it out. Whichever. But either way they are still at fault. Honestly, I know it must be hard to come up with a storyline considering all the factors involved but really....it can't be THAT hard to realize some things are really really bad ideas. One trip to their PR office would have told them that. And I mean we've all come up with ideas before that wove in various characters. I really do think is soap's took a bit more time off during the year they could relax a bit and plan this stuff out better. *shrug* IA that they both are at fault but if you do a search of Carruthers at IMDB.com you will see that she has NO experience as a writer. I think that she was placed in that position under poor advisement and she should had been demoted LONG before now. I also think that McT should have been demoted to co-head writer and that they should have brought someone that is able to juggle more than 4 SLs at a time.

I like the idea of a co-head writer...but honestly I prefer two new people than McT getting a partner. Mainly because McT favours certain characters far too much, it's much more out of proportion than other head writers, IMO. When she doesn't like a character, they literaly disappear (ie Brooke, Danielle). At least on other shows head writers still include those characters they don't favour a little bit.
Her style of approaching it makes me sick of all the ones she favours. They are on too much, they are given too much, they are favoured too much and now I can't stand them.

You know... I posted this at NB once when I was trying to point out that there is more wrong with AMC than just the head writer. But the Zendall fans thought that AMC was just peachy and Blue accused me of fan wanking. As if I had started watching AMC decades in advance of James ever getting there in anticiapation that he would be born to go to AMC some day! Those people are idiots!
Y&R Hires New Head Writer, "Eliminates" EP Posted Monday, February 27, 2006 12:22:30 AM
You wouldn't think that a television program that has been ranked number one for nearly two decades would need much fine tuning. However, there have been a handful of behind-the-scenes changes at The Young and the Restless of late.
Lynn Marie Latham has been named the CBS soap's new head writer. Latham had served as executive story consultant for Y&R since 2005. Former co-head writers, Jack Smith and Kay Alden, will remain on board with the same titles, but both will now be working under Latham.
Latham is no stranger to the world of daytime television. From 1997 to 1999, Latham served as head writer of the now-cancelled ABC half-hour soap, Port Charles. She also has writing credits for the primetime soaps Knots Landing, Pacific Palisades, Homefront and Savannah.
Elsewhere, Smith was also removed from his post as executive producer for The Young and the Restless. Smith had served as the show's executive producer since 2004. There will be no immediate replacement for Smith, however. CBS states that the position has been eliminated. It is unclear if cutting the position is seen as a way to cut the show's budget or if the position will simply be non-existent until a suitable replacement is found.
Edward Scott, the show's former executive producer who currently serves as supervising producer, will continue in his current post.
The shakeups seem particularly unusual considering that Y&R has received a mountain of honors so far this year. Earlier this month, the show picked up 18 Daytime Emmy nominations and earned top honors at the Writers Guild of America Awards.

I would really love to know the other factors that go into these decisions. I mean they can't really be blind to how bad AMC is right now...what are the reasons for keeping these people in charge of the show? I mean I seriously don't see what could be worth it for AMC to keep McT or JHC when the soap mags are calling the show UNWATCHABLE in it's entirety, actors are bailing left, right and centre and it has such negative press and low ratings.

I'm trying to stay away from AMC until there is some MAJOR change on TPTB. Until then I'm saving an hour of my day. DOOL is really pretty good and Sheffer hasn't even gotten there yet. Y&R supposedly ROCKS and is just me or do ALL of the ABC soaps seem a bit lack-luster. I'm bored with AMC/OLTL/GH to the point that even the spoilers fail to interest me. Dorian and Clint? Been there, seen that and it was better with Dorian and JOEY. Emily and Nicholas again? UGH! WHY can't Helena just KILL HER ALREADY? Sam and Ric...Jason and Liz...Lucky and Maxie...WHY? WHY? WHY?

GH I think is actually improving...they cut out the Lucky/Maxie stuff already, apparently, which makes me happy not because I'm really invested in the storyline but that it's proof they listen to the fans. Soily is ending. Robert and Anna are back, Laura is finally returning....heck I'm even liking the teen storyline which is really rare for me.
AMC and OLTL are dullsville for me. But even OLTL is better than AMC.
