The recast of Babe will be seamless. When last viewed on October 8, Alexa Havins (Babe) will fall into her mother Krystal’s embrace. The next shot will then show Amanda Baker (Jolene, GH: NS) finishing the embrace, as the new recast.
Most of the important story questions for the fall is a guessing game with the new head writers (Savoring Soaps Blogger Marlena De Lacroix is not a fan—check her August 30th AMC column, “All My Children in 33 1/3 rpm,” out) Barbara Esensten and James Harmon Brown (formerly of PC and GL). All signs point to a definite reveal of Kathy as Tad’s biological daughter, but before that has to happen, the writers feel Tad and Julia’s friendship has to be forged, and Julia develop a closeness with Tad’s extended family – Krystal, Colby and Jenny. Riding shotgun on this development will naturally be Adam falling more in love with his estranged wife Krystal in the only role he can get away with given their estrangement—pretending to be his kinder, gentler brother Stuart. That Adam still holds in his possession proof of Kathy’s identity will figure prominently in all the developing relationships. Looking over to the other major story, Esensten promised that Zach will not remain aloof from Kendall’s harrowing situation—having to face the ailments of both her sons—even with Hannah in the picture. “We know that Zach is going to have a major plan in mind to help Kendall through this. He is not without emotion, and he can get pissed at her, but their love is so strong that eventually he is going to figure out a way to fix this, the best way that he can,” she said. Greenlee’s continued presence in Pine Valley will also, most assuredly bug the hell out of two of Kendall’s men, Zach and Ryan. That Greenlee forges a tight bond with the man Zach hired to babysit her, Aidan, will serve to push an unexpected romance farther along. For, as Esensten described, nothing inspires the heroic gentleman in Aidan more than the outcast damsel in distress. “Perhaps if she wasn't the ‘hated’ one, their relationship might not have developed the way it's beginning to, because he has to be a little protective of her,” she added. –SoapOperaDigest/Weekly online, “AMC Fall Preview: Love is in the Air” by Julie Globus
Alicia Minshew (Kendall) speculated that even if Hannah is back in town, even pregnant, Zendall won’t be broken apart, because maybe the father of the unborn baby will turn out to be Josh. Minshew couldn’t, for the life of her, see Zach cheating on Kendall, even for a noble, guilt-ridden request.
Sabine Singh’s (Greenlee) college years were characterized with health problems, lots of traveling, lots of credits. “I’ve basically been to every school in America – and if I didn’t physically go there, I probably got them to give me credit [laughs].” The adventure began with a surprise admission to the prestigious University of Michigan for a BFA for the Suffern, NY native Singh. She applied there because it was a good school and because it was far from where she grew up on the East Coast. Before she could start any of her classes or rush any sororities, Singh came down with bronchial pneumonia, which took her out of commission for months and left her living out of a hotel with her mother for the duration. She still found time to rush sororities, though, even while sick, and said she made others sick too. During this time, Singh had to deal with a stalker who took an unhealthy fancy to her at an orientation. This required the police to guard her. If all of this weren’t enough, Singh then gained 45 pounds and felt tired all the time, learning that she contracted Lyme Disease next. Doctors advised her to stay in a hospital bed, but Singh insisted on moving on to the next place of learning, all the way across the Atlantic ocean to Oxford. “I was taking 25 pills a day and studying Shakespeare.” She then desired to attend the British American Drama Academy (BADA), which required her receiving a credit from Bennington College. The Class of 1997 graduate did so, and finished their program at BADA, as well as an abroad program from UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) to be applied to Oxford. Following BADA, she went to New York University, “brought my Michigan, UCLA and Bennington via BADA and Oxford credits with me, started as a junior and finished my BFA in 1997.” Confused yet? If I’ve gotten any of this wrong, blame it on my own sick physical state, been wheezing for over a month now, presumably from a general viral infection turned into a full-blown allergy/asthma attack, gotta love the Northwest sitting on my chest. –Soap Opera Digest, “Alumni Association,” September 11, 2007

It’ll almost be like old-school AMC next year, with the vet returns.
