News for the week of 05-Nov-2007
by Carol Banks Weber
The characters who figure prominently in this year’s November Sweeps are Greenlee, Kendall, Zach, Aidan, Ryan, Annie, Babe, Richie, Krystal, Hannah and Adam. Not as prominent, but still key considerations are JR, Amanda, Jonathan, Ava, Lily, Jack and Erica and Julia. The number one story continues to revolve around what happens to Greenlee and Kendall because of one trying to get revenge on the other. The head writers have built this story up as all-encompassing, life-changing and revolutionary. Kendall, Zach and Erica’s individual vengeance plots will end up destroying them and threatening their relationships. If only they knew that the love of a good man, Aidan, has promised to reshape Greenlee into a better woman. Richie runs amuck, trying to destroy his sister Annie, her husband Ryan and anybody who gets in his way. But Babe (and to a lesser, surprising extent, Lily) might very well get in his way by influencing him for the good. Ryan refuses to allow Annie to fall for the misunderstood psycho act, and winds up going overboard, to detrimental effect. Tad hooks up with Hannah, but Hannah’s still under Adam’s thumb, because Adam knows that she hooked up with Alexander Cambius, Zach’s psycho dad, and if Zach hears about it and maybe another secret, it’ll ruin Hannah’s ultimate plan to hook up with him again. But Tad also wants to keep Krystal on his short leash, building up a relationship that doesn’t really have legs, not compared to her fiery attraction to Adam. Amanda tires of the friends with benefits package offered her by JR. But JR and Ava might give Amanda a run for her money, leaving poor Jonathan in the lurch . Julia finds love again, and a renewed family.
Alicia Minshew (Kendall) told a Soap Opera Weekly reporter recently that she was a bit displeased with the step backward that Kendall takes in taking revenge on Greenlee this late in the game. “Being devious is always fun. But there are times when I feel she takes a few steps backward, and I don't want her to go backward. I want her to realize that she has two children now, and revenge is not the way. I want to show that this woman has grown.” Greenlee should be punished, however, Minshew emphasized, but not this harshly (by setting her up for criminal charges). Instead of taking this step backward, Minshew – when asked – suggested forgiveness, a European vacation, feast and fawking for Kendall and Zach, therapy and friends forever for Kendall and Greenlee.
Susan Lucci (Erica) patiently planned the surprise 70th birthday party of her husband Helmut Huber almost a year in advance. She also had the aid of ABC Daytime, her AMC cast and soap colleagues. In planning the surprise birthday party, Lucci and her ABC co-conspirators made up a special VIP event for ABC affiliates, complete with media and an elaborate invitation with her photograph on it. The top-secret (to Huber) shindig was held at the fancy Rainbow Room-Rockefeller Plaza, featuring Huber’s Austrian favorites on the menu, Huber’s favorite pastime—gaming tables, and a live band playing Huber’s favorite kind of music. Huber had no idea, so elaborate and detailed was Lucci’s mastermind. She even went so far as to act disappointed that this event conflicted with her husband’s actual birth date, knowing he would generously encourage her to go ahead for the ABC team. Everybody was there, their children (son Andreas arrived from Europe), Michael E. Knight (Tad), Thorsten Kaye (Zach) and his wife Susan Haskell (ex-Marty, OLTL), who caught up with Hillary B. Smith (Nora, OLTL), and Erika Slezak (Viki, OLTL), David Canary (Adam/Stuart) sharing a friendly buss with Bobbie Eakes (Krystal), Alicia Minshew (Kendall), Regis Philbin…
Cameron Mathison (Ryan) remains on Dancing With The Stars after landing in the bottom two, but he was probably floored by the elimination of Cheetah Girls’ Sabrina Bryant (who had received perfect scores before, and was one of the frontrunners) last week. While working on this hit reality-TV competition, Mathison’s been able to forget worrying about where to stay in L.A., where DWTS films. Thanks to his friends Rebecca Budig (ex-Greenlee) and her husband Bob Guiney (ex-The Bachelor), Mathison’s staying at their house and, he reported, being treated like a king in a five-star resort. They tend to his unique dietary needs, they make sure he’s got lunch for unexpected flights back to New York. “They’re the best host and hostess on the planet.” –Soap Opera Weekly, November 6, 2007
If Alicia Minshew (Kendall) didn’t routinely keep her curly tresses in line with Philip Kingsley’s leave-in conditioner, at her side wherever she goes, she said she’d look like Bozo, the Clown.
Chrishell Stause (Amanda) and Melissa Claire Egan (Annie) maintain their trim figures for the TV screen by eating healthy, wisely, and occasionally, in moderation. They also try to exercise regularly. That’s it, no big mysterious secret, no starvation, no liquid diets, no hare-brained schemes. While Stause does try to steer clear of junk food and fried food, Egan advises against being too strict. “If you deny yourself everything all the time,” she said, then you might wind up scarfing down a bag of cookies like she does when she is too strict with herself. Indulge, but “in moderation.” –Soap Opera Weekly, November 6, 2007
Jill Larson (Opal) reappears to be in scenes with Erica, November 8.
When Kate Collins reappears as Janet later in November, she’ll bond with daughter Amanda for Thanksgiving, then in December, meet Richie in Oak Haven where the two plot to flee their institution.

Children in peril not enough for ya? How about a social issue masked as a story to put the guilt in soap viewing for next year? That’s the plan of the head writers.
What is that terrible thing that Ryan causes while defending Annie from Richie? I believe he’ll accidentally kill JR, Richie’s unknowing stooge. Hence, allowing JR’s portrayer, Jacob Young, to leave AMC as planned.
