this was in my SOD insider email...
Cameron Mathison
(Ryan, AMC)
This story happened a year or so ago, but I just saw this link asking for up-close and personal soap star stories and I have a great one.
We have a AA baseball team in our town, and they are always having promotions to try and increase the crowd. Well, I couldn't believe my eyes when the paper announced that Cameron Mathison [Ryan, AMC] was going to be at a game to hang out and sign autographs! Everyone I knew (of the female persuasion) was so excited! It was the biggest thing that had happened to our town in a long time!
I was supposed to go with, or meet, over 30 people ... and then it rained. Well, let me tell you, rain in this town is like 10 feet of snow in Saint Louis! Therefore, people kept backing out one by one by one. I was livid, and so ashamed that this was the impression that Cameron was going to get of my town! And he was surely going to think that there were absolutely no soap fans anywhere near!! Even though I was forced to go by myself, I went. Sure enough, the crowd was small, to say the least! I was completely embarrassed, almost to the point of not even talking to him! However, my mood lifted, because I realized that it didn't seem to matter to Cameron. I'm telling you that he sat there and signed autographs and smiled and acted like he was thrilled to be there! My entire reason for writing this is to tell you that on that rainy night, Cameron Mathison became my favorite daytime actor, even though I don't really watch AMC. There he was, bigger than life, making every person that he met feel special. His attitude made everyone and everything better! Even the weather! For all I know, he may have gone away from the experience thinking that it was a waste of time for such a small crowd, or wondering why on earth he bothered to come to this appearance, but I hope that he reads this so that he will know that the people who were there totally appreciated his effort! Thanks, Cameron, for hanging out, and making the most out of the situation, whether there were 500 or 5000 there!
And just an added note, it felt great to be around a man who could easily pose for the mold of the perfect man, and have him act like he's got a beer gut, no style, and a pocket protector!! Completely natural, unassuming, and absolutely refreshing!
