Reading the thread about cats and wrapping presents made me think of my babies. My oldest kitty, Callie Lou, who was 16+, passed away on the 22nd of December. We are very attached to our cats, so this was hard, so close to Christmas. We knew she would not be with us very much longer, but did not expect her to go so soon, and right at Christmas. Her daughter, who is 15+ has never been separated from her mom since birth. They always stayed together. Wherever one was, the other was. Sissy is now in a grieving mode. She goes from room to room, crying, and looking for her mom. She seems to be better when people are around her, so we have been paying her extra attention. She does not seem to want to interact with the other cats, except for Bitsy, who loves everyone and everything. She is kinda like our Wal-Mart greeter. She always greets humans, lets kids play with her, and is the first to greet a new pet. Hopefully, in time Sissy will not miss her mom so much. But in case anyone is not aware of it, pets grieve too. Sorry, did not want to bring the group down with this post. I just wanted to tell y'all about my baby.

Aww...Babs. I'm so sorry about your cat. I always cry my eyes out when I lose a pet. Marley, my dog, took it very badly when my kitty Ivy Lynn died. Marley was moping around looking really depressed, and didn't want to eat. I had to take her to the vet and they said to give her some time. Luckily she got her hunger back after a week. I felt so bad over losing Ivy. Watching Marley made me even more depressed. It wasn't long before I got a new play buddy for her.
Pets do have their own way of grieving.

oh sweeti - how sad. i have 2 kitties who i love - they are part of our family. our first cat (a gift for kallie) had to be put to sleep at only 14 months. i hope my cats have a long life but to lose them - i don't want to think about it.
your younger kitty will be fine with all the love i'm sure your giving her. and as sad as it is - your older kitty knew how loved she was.

Thanks guys. It is nice that we have so many animal lovers on this board. People who are not animal lovers or are not pet owners don't get it! Pets are family members. You guys made me feel better. I am sure Sissy will get over her grief. But maybe then she won't want to give up the extra attention!

i never had a pet growing up in the city. it took 3 years of kallie begging to get her our kitty (the one we had to put to sleep at 14 months ) the last thing i wanted was an "icky" pet in my house. i think it took me about 15 seconds to fall in love with chase. he was soo tiny and soo cute. he was a "different" kitty as he would jump in the shower with me and loved car rides!!!!! he would jump up on the dashboard!!!! ;D ;D the best was my ex-fiance would whistle and chase would run up and jump on his shoulder and wrap himself around his neck. i can't whistle. but my ex was 6'4" so that wasn't an easy task for chase!!!!! kc just turned 1. mer-mer we got at 4yrs - he is 5 now. chase would of been 2 months older then chase!! ok - had to pour my heart out.

Barbara, Give Sissy a smooch and a scratch in her favortive spot from all of us. Thanks Amy, that is beautiful. Sissy is feeling the love right now. She is sitting on my monitor watching me type. She is very small, less than 6 lbs, so she can perch in weird places. You guys are the best! hugs to you all!
