Huh! I can't find anything. I went to look for you, quirky stuff like that is fun. But last year it was actually in the 30's. I'll keep looking.
ETA: Ok I see where you edited your post. Not sure what year that is but if you give me the year I'll see if I can find it. Now I DO remember the Christmas of 1983 because I ended up in the ER with 2nd degree burns and it was so cold they didn't want to take me out of my house with those burns. It was not fun!

last winter it froze with windchill around 120 below 0 in december which was early as hell!! and the rest of the winter was mild. snow??? not like it used to be. when i was little we used to build real snow forts. i remember being yelled at for losing a boot in the snow. kallie went to build a snow fort and i'm wondering how in the hell does she planned to do this. she always talks about them building forts at school. she goes outside and in the 2 inches of snow on the ground literally dragged her foot and made a big square. inside was the fort!!! poor kids ;D ;D Charity, I can't find anything from last year that was that cold. I know it was below zero the whole week around my birthday which is the 10th but it seemed to be pretty good around Christmas and after for a bit. I went to look for you but can't find anything like that. Oh well, if I do see anything I'll post it for you. Temp's that bad should be remembered for those hot August days where we are baking!

God I love statistical weather related shit like this! ;D
This is the night I got hurt:
Daily Summary for December 24, 1983 Next Day » Actual Average Record Temperature Mean Temperature -13 °F / -25 °C 23 °F / -5 °C Max Temperature -6 °F / -21 °C 30 °F / -1 °C 60 °F / 15 °C (1889) Min Temperature -20 °F / -29 °C 17 °F / -8 °C -21 °F / -29 °C (1872)
And here was Christmas Day when it got warm enough to take me in:
Daily Summary for December 25, 1983 Next Day » Actual Average Record Temperature Mean Temperature -7 °F / -22 °C 23 °F / -5 °C Max Temperature -2 °F / -19 °C 30 °F / -1 °C 61 °F / 16 °C (1982) Min Temperature -12 °F / -24 °C 16 °F / -8 °C -12 °F / -24 °C (1983)
I remember that so well! They treated me but wouldn't take me outside to the ambulance because I was safer inside. Just 8 hours later they came back to get me to take me to the hospital. I had my own Dr. McSteemy slathering creams all over my chest! I was in so much pain and yet this gorgeous intern was slathering me up!! Thank God for pain meds!! I still remember his name, Dr. Murphy! ;D

My poor Son is out playing (band) tonight for homecoming! I bet his lips are frozen to his trombone!!!
Charity, I can't do the math because I don't know how old you are so let me know what the years are to check and I'll check them for you. The sub zero last year was early December. If I remember correctly we had close to a week straight near zero but it was all in the first part of December. I just hope we don't have a repeat of that!

Ok. Here is what I found. See you threw me because at first the post said last year but last Christmas-New Years was actually pretty decent. I know, I avoided my family and had fun that week instead!
So I went back and did a search from Dec 28, 1990 throught Dec 31 1992 for that time frame of the 27th-31st for each year. There is one day that was cold and could have been below zero but there was no wind recorded that date. Unless you have a wider time frame I can check this is the only thing I found. Daily Summary for December 31, 1990 Next Day » Actual/ Average / Record Temperature Mean Temperature 8 °F / -14 °C 22 °F / -5 °C Max Temperature 15 °F / -9 °C 29 °F / -1 °C 59 °F / 15 °C (1875) Min Temperature 0 °F / -18 °C 15 °F / -9 °C -15 °F / -26 °C (1963)

(born 1972) check the state in general cause i didn't live in milwaukee at the time. the weather was worse the crossing the bridge on eau claire campus!!!! (i went to Lacrosse and had friends up in eau claire - don't know if you heard about the dreaded bridge)

Ok here is the coldest date in that area:
Record Setting Cold - December 12, 2000
Tuesday morning (December 12th) brought record cold to many locations in Minnesota. Though the Twin Cities did not set a record low temperature (-11 F on Tuesday was the coldest December 12th since 1962, but not close to the record cold of -14 F in 1903), several other communities reported record lows, including....
Alexandria -21 F, Brainerd -23 F, Cambridge -24 F Windom -17 F, Owatonna -15 F, Albert Lea -15 F Red Wing -15 F, Hibbing -24 F, Park Rapids -27 F Lamberton -14 F, New Ulm -15 F (tied 1945 and 1932) Embarrass -35 F, Littlefork -27 F, Babbitt -25 F Eau Claire, WI -18 F
So with -18 degrees being the coldest temp recorded that doesn't fit either. Well just let me know what to check next time. Anything under zero is cold enough to freeze your nose shut (LOL) so maybe it wasn't a record setting cold but just DAMN cold. It probably wasn't when you lived in Milwaukee or Racine either because the lake keeps the temps up. However, I've seen some amazingly cool ice formations along the lake from sub zero temps and waves crashing on top of layers of ice. Very cool!

I have a funny "snow story" for you. I married a Texan who had hardly ever seen snow. What we get here is only really laughable. A few years ago, I took him to visit my family in Indiana. He was so mystified by snow that he actually asked to shovel the walkway! My family loved him of course and asked me to bring him every winter. I won't ever again though because every three minutes I was being hit with a snowball.
