I can't watch this show Babe, Josh and Kwak make me GACK! I'm glad I'm Haiku-free I just spoiled this by saying I hate Babe, Josh and Kwak and I'm not too fond of Dixie By the way, I obviously flunked Poetry 101.

i really think Haiku's suck Really? I think haiku can be devestatingly beautiful. Mother I never knew, every time I see the ocean, every time... ---Issa Autumn evening--- there's joy also in loneliness. ---Buson Winter solitude--- in a world of one color the sound of wind. ---Basho

Apparently that whole 5-7-5 rule is just something our high school English teachers told us that isn't really true. This is one of the shorter definitions/explanations I could find online.
the average Japanese syllable has different length and bears the different "amount of meaning" as compared to those of other languages; thus "holy 17" can't be saved so formally. When poets write or translate haiku into their language they try to save haiku spirit, and somehow imitate the Japanese form (the length of the lines, the breaks) - but at the same time they take into account the common patterns of their own language so that it sounds natural. This way most of Russian translations of classic Japanese haiku have about 20 syllables; on the other hand, a haiku in English, according to W.Higginson's "The Haiku Handbook", is bet- ter when it's about 12 syllables:

Have you all ever read any of my poems? I've had a few published. Not sure what books they are in. I agreed to have them published, but I didn't buy the poetry books they were featured in. I should have though. I dedicated my lastest one to "My Mom and Mr. James Scott"....lmao! ;D Check out Poetry.com. Some of them are featured there. Noble House, the UK publishers, published my poem "Kissing The Wind" just last May. I was invited to a Poetry Award ceremony in Las Vegas last June, Ruben Studdard was a guest star, but I coldn't afford to fly out there...

Zoe, do you have a link to your poems that are on poetry.com? I would love to read them but I don't know what your name is or what your pen name is so I wouldn't be able to tell which ones are yours.
