I can't decide if this is incredibly sweet or terribly sad... Yesterday I was taking pictures of Minnehaha Falls because I promised to post a picture of how they look frozen for Charity. So I'm taking the photos as quick as possible (it was -16 with windchill) when I see a bouquet of flowers that had been tossed over the bridge that spanning the falls onto the iced-over creek below. It's a beautiful bouquet, tied with lace and everything... and I'm wondering who threw it there, and why, and then a jogger passes and sees me looking at the flowers and says that there’s a bouquet like that every year.... I can't stop thinking of it. How long have bouquets been left there, three years? 30? Longer? Is it to commemerate something sad or to celebrate something happy? It's hard to fathom having inspired that kind of devotion in someone else. the bouquet some pictures of the frozen falls

Those are great pics. It is kinda sad, but yet very touching. Whoever leaves those must be the most devoted person I've ever heard of. If you ever find out the story, let us know.

Are they left by one person or a couple? It is to remember something sad (like a death) or happy (a marriage or proposal)?

Elana, that is so intriguing. I'm with you on this---it's both beautiful and sad. I love the pathos of it. And the frozen falls are just beautiful. Thank you for risking freezing your off to get those shots.

I'll post some more photos later, I got a great one of the statue of Hiawatha and Minnehaha (from Longfellow's poem) I've asked around and no one has ever heard about the bouquet before

The famous statue (build in 1911 or so when school children raised over $1000 in small change) an upclose shot of one of the ice caves created by the falls freezing

OMG - i don't believe you remembered!!! i am seriously in awe of their beauty. those pictures are amazing. thank you for remembering. i would stand in freezing weather just to see it. one of the most beautiful sights i've seen.
sadly enough the flowers probably is a dedication to someone who either drowned or had their ashes spread at that sight. call it a lot of psychology and social studies. i would be interested in hearing the story and finding out who is so dedicated. so sweet and so sad.
