news/rumors? about why head writers were fired (by maggielee)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a friend who works at abc in ny. He does not work on amc. He has never had any scoops for me in the past. Until this past March. I didn’t post this before because he asked me not to then. Now I can along with my thoughts. I cannot confirm any of this. Just presenting it as rumor. These are the highlights of what he said.
TPTB wanted jon & lily back together. They were popular and branson was very popular. I was told this reunion was hinted at in the year end credits for 2006. I don’t remember this and don’t have a recording but my friend says that there were more shots of jon & lily than any other couple. And the ending shots were of them dancing as the singer sang about the future?
It was e&b’s job to get jon & lily back together. That’s what the Ava story was supposed to do?! The reveal of the story would be that Ava had tricked jon & lily. And that jon mumbled in his sleep about his love for lily… yadda, yadda. It backfired. Fans hated ava and turned on jon.
JHC e&b tried to fix it by pairing lily with rich and ava with jr to help show how much jon & lily belonged together!?? I’m sure they had a plan. But I don’t see it. Branson wasn’t happy because it meant he would have next to nothing to do in contrast to LR who wouldn't even be staying with the show. Work became strained.
TPTB knew they needed to make changes. But they were focused on writing for the returns so they decided to make Branson wait. Branson surprised everyone and decided to walk. Frons really surprised everyone and went looking for e&b’s replacement after just six months!
There was a little hope that they could get Branson back with a new headwriter. But the strike was on and things didn’t work out the way they wanted and it all fell apart. Word around abc was that once e&b were replaced, jhc would follow.
I guess there was support for Branson. This made things even more strained behind-the-scenes. According to my friend just about every guy under the age of 40 wanted to leave!? Thought my friend was joking about this. But it doesn't look that way.

ACCCCKKKKKKKK! YOU'VE GOT TO BE FLOOKING KIDDING ME! I knew NO-Jilly was the reason the writers got fired. And that the ratings suck and that Jeff was given his Walk This Way Out The Door Papers. And that Global Warming and the slow extinction of Polar Bears are all because there is No-Jilly. Really. Okay, so now Trixie goes running as fast as her short cellulite-laden legs can go as she rips her hair out and stuffs said hair into her bleeding ears. Well, that's my intellectual comment for the day.

If it's true, than I'm even more glad Jeff decided to walk. A) he saved himself and viewers from more Jilly (why did TPTB have such..well, the term I want to use is kind of nasty, so let me say..enthusiasm for the pairing?)and B) He shouldn't be playing second fiddle to anyone. Maybe that will teach the asshats not to assume they can place the real talent on the backburner and expect them happily twiddle their thumbs till they can think of a new reason for Babe and JR to have sex. And this rumor could also explain the "backstage drama" I kept reading about involving Jeff. Thanks Liz!

Yeah, I doubt that Jilly is the sole reason for the firing of the writers. But the rest of it does have a certain logic to it. Jeff's a smart guy - he's not going to stick around and wait for TIIC. In sort of a backhanded way the last statement makes me smile. If it's true than I'm glad he had the support from his fellow castmates. If all the men under 40 walked, what would we have left - All My Old Fogies? ;D

Ok. I'm gonna (very carfully) step out from the pack on this one---While, for my own reasons, I liked Jily, I say, if Jeff was miserable and LR was leaving, then the writers could have began backing away from Jily, pairing the actor with another performing partner. What a waste of acting talent! Lori

What a waste of acting talent! Lori Absolutely agree, Lori. I thought "Jonathan" was good with Amanda and also with Annie. Either of those pairings (especially the one with Annie) would have been great with lots of potential. What a waste indeed. But I'm glad that Jeff is well out of that whole AMC debacle.

Lori, don't ever feel like you can't express your views here. You don't have to be careful about anything you say here. Nobody here is going to judge you because you have a different opinion. What a concept, huh?? ;D ;D ;D
I mean, I'd watch out for Amy, but other than that........... ;D ;D ;D

I was all for Jomanda, but I would have been happy with Joannie, too. They both had loads of potential. And wasn't the Beacon of Light busy burning bridges and saying she wasn't resigning? You're right on, Lori. Why would they push a pairing with at least one of the actors already bolting? In Jeff's case I'd say it was a smart move...

I guess, I just post cautiously out of habit...You never know what steamiming pile of opinion (think SOApnet or SOC) you might find yourself stuck in! ;D ;D ;D And on a Jily note, I will say only this: Some people have posted infavor of Jon and Lily, because the both had disabilities. For me that was never the case. (Oh, pleeese! I've , met some jerks, who would have been the same way--wheels or not. :-[Having a disability doesn't make you a candidate for sainthood, by any stretch of the imagination. The main thing with the characters, that I picked up on, was one accepting the other (at least until the end anyway) I liked the whole 'you do what your good at and I'll do what I'm good at--and the overall situation will work' idea, generally speaking. I think, in the begining, the reason I was slow to warm to the whole Jomanda thing was Amanda didn't think very much of herself, back then. I don't think it was ever Jon's intention to take advantage of her. If I recall, he thought they were on the same page about what they were doing---and eventually found themselves 'backed up against a wall.' ;D ;D ;D Lori

Believe me Amy, If I had a choice, I'd have much rather seen Annie potentially bring out the lighter side of Jon (Eventually, Ryan would have forgiven Hockett. ) rather than have him sitting across the table from 'Miss Mohawk 2007'. ;D ;D ;D ;D I love it!
And don't ever think you can't express your opinions here. We're all respectful unlike the fools at some of the other boards. When I started watching AMC again it was in the midst of Jily. At first I was okay with it for the reasons you so eloquently stated. What I had a problem with was the age thing (b/w the actors) and the fact that Jily was the reason that Jonathan was kept impaired for so long. And then when LR went all diva/Britney, I couldn't stand to see her in any scenes with JB.

Like everyone else said, Lori. Your opinions are NOT going to be squashed here. You say what you want, with NO repercussions! You can like Jilly, DAMKWAK, Jerica, Avathon, Zackan, Tavid or any other combined name you can come up with. Even Ericman. Or Tadam. However, you cannot like TADKWAK. Or Jabe. That's my only stipulation. ;D But it's still okay if you do. I just will have to scratch my head more often, and well, it's kind of a really disgusting habit. I prefer not to have to annoy people more than I already do. But then, there's always the CANE.
