(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Susan Lucci decides to remain with “All My Children;” but not everybody is moving west.
ABC has released the list of “All My Children” actors relocating from New York to Los Angeles with production of the soap, three weeks after the September 8 deadline for the actors to make a final decision about the move. The major news is of course that original cast member Susan Lucci, who plays the legendary Erica Kane, will remain with “AMC.” On the other side of the coin, the soap looks like it will lose an original cast member, as well as one of their most popular stars due to the move.
The show had 27 contract cast members at the time of the L.A. announcement in August. Three actors have since been fired: Aiden Turner, who plays Aidan Devane, Brianne Moncrief, who plays Colby Chandler, and Beth Ehlers, who plays Taylor Thompson. Two actors have announced their retirement: James Mitchell, who plays Palmer Cortlandt, retirement was announced earlier this year; joining Mitchell is original cast member Ray MacDonnell, who plays Dr. Joe Martin, MacDonnell announced his retirement in relationship to the move. Two of “AMC’s” most popular stars are not on the relocation list: Thorsten Kaye, who plays Zach Slater, and Alicia Minshew, who plays Kendall Hart Slater. ABC simply says Kaye is not relocating and that Minshew will be on maternity leave beginning in November. Sources close to Kaye reveal that the actor will stop taping on “AMC” in November. The same sources indicate that there is room for things to change, whether that refers to final tape-date or Kaye’s status with the show or both subjects is unclear. Although not on the relocation list, Soap Opera Digest has just reported that Minshew’s status is not up in the air, although the length of her maternity leave is. Minshew assures that she will return to the cast of “AMC” at some time in 2010 (Update). Nearing the end of the Wednesday work day, Chrishell Stause (who plays Amanda Dillon Martin) cleared up her position with the soap. Stause ”tweets” that she will not be signing on for another contract with ”AMC” but hopes to continue appearing on the soap despite the status change (Update). Stause’s current contract (which the actress decided to extend a couple of times this year) ends later this year.
The following is the list of the 20-contract cast members definitely relocating from New York to Los Angeles with production of “AMC” later this year:
