Okay, guys, you know how much I love NYC (I do) unfortunatly the work place sucks. Its LONG ASS hours, disorganized, unstructured, scattered and hectic. The people don't communicate at all and tell me to make changes at the end of the work day. I haven't signed a contract yet or signed onto an apartment either so I'm not stuck yet- what should I do? It won't hurt to leave because I haven't signed a thing and it won't hurt for further down the line. Main thing I LOVE NYC but my job is awful and I don't want to be miserable.A year is a long time to be miserable. What do you guys think?

Aw ... MEG! I need a hug smiley! Pretend there is one and that I'm hugging you... now, on to my "advice" haha Jobs you love can be hard enough. There's BS in jobs you love...if you're miserable..and you know it now...my advice is get out. You may be catching me on the wrong day...but I love my job...it's what I've wanted to do my entire life, but I'm coming off a bad week of it. My point is: It can be miserable when you love it...so if you know this place isn't for you, and you're miserable already...imagine how bad it can be when other things start to complicate it. You're super talented -- I bet there are a lot of places who would want you. If you really feel like you would be absolutely, totally miserable...then try something else. You're right when you say that a year is a long time to be miserable! I hope that didn't sound harsh or anything. I just don't want you to be unhappy! I hope everything works out!! *imagine a hugging smiley*

Thanks for the advice Kelly! It wasn't harsh and ,yes, a year in a miserable job well....that is miserable.I just don't feel like this company knows what it's doing and I feel I would be sliding backwards from my training. Again, thanks for the response.

it's corny, but i say follow your heart. if you don't wanna be there in that situation for a year, then don't do it. other opportunities will present themselves.

meg - you have amazing talent and worked too hard not to be in a job you love. yes - at any job things are not always going to run smoothly but if you love it you will be able to take it in stride. don't start out your life being miserable. i think you need to find another place. a place you are comfortable and love. like i said - your work is amazing. you will find something you love and shouldn't settle for anything less!!!!!!!

That's the major factor right there Meg. If you feel like you're doing yourself more harm than good by staying...then you have your answer.
Again, I know you're super talented and lots of employers will want you.
How many days have you been there?? Is this a trial run? Are they going to present you with a contract soon?

That's the thing, Kelly, they've said they have a contract for me but haven't presented one at all. I can't sign a lease contract until I sign one with them- which I'm glad I haven't right now. Sadly, I love the city but when I'm working 9-7 5 days a week in a job that feels uneasy and undermanaged..well, I can't enjoy my life....or the city I love

go with your gut Meg. It's not a dream job if you hate every second of it.

Thanks and tell Kallie she's right and much wiser than this 25 year old.
I think you guys are right and really it's a blessing nothing has been dotted in ink. I just feel miserable. I know first "career" jobs aren't supposed to be easy but I just feel this is a scattered company that is itself very unstable and really doesn't know where it's going.

How many days have you been there w/o signing the contract? Not trusting how the company is run is a scary feeling.
Do you feel like you could find another job doing something similar in NYC?

That I don't know, Kelly. In my field things work rather weirdly. I hope I find a good company in NYC -that would kick ass.
I've been there 2 days without signing anything and , really, with little communication with anyone. Those in charge see me a total of twice a day. Once in the morning then in the evening.

I'm with Flail, and everyone else who said "That is TOO long to be unhappy!" "Follow your heart." It is an awful feeling to get up in the morning and dread the next several hours of your day. I know. And I'm sorry I know. But sweetie, you're young so do what you truly feel is right in your heart. See, there you went and made me perky. Yikes. Just be responsible, get a good job, eat lots of vegetables and then stick a couple of forks in your eyeballs. Might as well if you're not going to have some fun. HAVE SOME FUN. Dang Nab It! I'm obviously not a good person to answer these kinds of questions. Sorry. BUT! You're young. Go out, develop your talents and KICK SOME BUTT. I wish I could do it for you, but I bruise too easily now
