Morning people are certainly a different breed. My mom is a total morning person. When I was a kid she used to wake me up by singing "Good morning to you, good morning to you, good morning, dear Amy, good morning to you."

Oh, LL! If my mom ever did that she would have been committed! My mom greeted us every morning by saying "mmmmph, uh, oh, no, argh, DON'T TALK TO ME NOW"! She was quite sentimental.

Amy, that is HYSTERICAL!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D Trixie, it sounds like your mother and I were cut from the same cloth. When I used to wait tables, I would think the 11:30 lunch shift was too early!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D Luckily, Vince has inherited that same trait! Julia? Well, let's just say that she and Amy's mom would get along great. That kid DOES wake up singing!!!

Trixie ; surfing is both perky & bloody impressive ! We try in Britain but we just can`t do the whole customer service thing here properly like you can . People at a til WILL attend to you ...just after they`ve finished their conversation , filled in their paper work , clipped their toe nails. What a lovely memory LL . My dad used to say ( I kid you not) ' Open your golden eyes sweetheart . Open your golden eyes . " I don`t know if it was a quote but it worked with me . My brother would need the reinforcement wake up troops ( mum with an icy cold cloth! )

Liz - My mom was so bad in the mornings SHE WAS GREAT! I always had to write my own sick note-excuses and then she would just scrawl her signature at the bottom of what we wrote. She had no idea that we said we needed to be excused from school because there was a goat sacrificial rite going on during PE and I NEEDED TO BE AT THE SACRIFICE. She also didn't see where we wrote that we had to work at the circus that day or that we were training poodles to be on Ed Sullivan. Needless to say, I ditched a lot of school with her (not so knowledgeable) permission . My poor mom.

Skye and LL - You two actually have some very sweet memories. Not to sound too perky or anything, but I rather envy you that.

Trixie, my mom sweetness kind of made up for my dad's favorite thing to say to us which was, "You damn brats tear up everything." ;D Coming in a close second was, "Well, you damn dummies."

Liz, Those are the least of my offenses! I forgot about the note I wrote about having to attend my great-grandmother's funeral. It was the eleventh one she had in ten years. I was bad. But my mom appreciated me after going through the other five kids and their crimes against parenthood. At least, as my mom said, I was creative and never did any permanent damage (except for the time I wouldn't let her and my dad make out at the drive-in while watching Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid). Well. It would've scarred me forever.

However, he was raised by a father who was a lot like Patrick Lavery. My dad never hit us and he didn't drink or run out on us. He did pretty well considering the nightmare of a childhood he had. And my siblings and I laugh about the "damn dummies" thing all the time now. ;D

Sorry, Liz, I didn't mean to make you feel bad. I had a pretty darn good childhood. I was/am very lucky when it comes to my family.
